CEO Conference 2011

an exclusive conference for 100 Portuguese CEOs with Roy Spence

Taking place at the beautiful Palácio Sotto Mayor, CEO Conference 2011 was an intensive half day program where Roy Spence worked with an exclusive group of CEOs on Corporations with Purpose – The Rise of Conscious Capitalism.

Haley Rushing, head of The Purpose Institute and Roy's co-author in the best-selling book 'It's not what you sell, it's what you stand for', developed a series of immersion dynamics with the audience strengthening the involvement with the subject of this conference.

Conscious Capitalism emerges in a world where products and services are being commoditized, differentiation is becoming harder to sustain and people are looking for a more meaningful life and are becoming increasingly demanding both as customers and employees. The organizations  that  they work for and the products that they buy, must have a higher purpose in alignment with their principles and values. The new Conscious Consumer, with the power of the markets, is driving businesses to become Conscious Businesses.

In Conscious Capitalism, the business has a deeper purpose beyond maximizing profits and shareholder value. The business is managed to optimize value for all of the interdependent stakeholders. Conscious Capitalism is  simply the larger ecosystem of Conscious Business. Conscious Capitalism will become the dominant economic paradigm in the twenty-first century because Conscious Businesses have stronger competitive advantages versus traditional business and have the tremendous capacity to change the world. Corporations with Purpose are the ones who are changing the world.

Roy Spence’s hard-won lessons are changing the way people see their job, their leadership style, theirs companies and business models. Roy's ideas will help make money, make a difference, and—with a little luck—make history.

Roy M. Spence, Jr., is chairman and CEO of GSD&M Idea City, a leading national marketing communications and advertising company that has helped grow some of the world’s most successful brands.  Hayley Rushing is chief purposologist and co founder of the Purpose Institute along with Roy Spence.

“When the ashes clear from this economic armageddon, the only organizations left standing will be the ones that actually stand for something. Without a purpose that improves peoples’lives and contributes to the greater good, organizations will struggle.” Roy Spence

“If you’re looking for a way to inspire people, mobilize the talent and energy of your organization and make a real difference, the roadmap and case studies in this [Roy Spence] book will help you do it.” Bill Clinton

“Roy Spence is a brilliant, sparkling gem. Dedicated to the idea that true greatness comes in direct proportion to passionate pursuit of a purpose beyond money, he has inspired and changed leaders in every sector.  (…) Spence  has a peculiar genius for helping people articulate what they stand for, and any leader who cares to create a great enterprise would be fortunate  to learn from this inspired guide.” Jim Collins, author

“Roy Spence’s instructive book reflects his charismatic genius, his evangelical zeal and his synergistic understanding of what makes businesses lodge in the hearts, not just the minds, of employees and customers.” Herb Kelleher, Founder Southwest Airlines
