23 Apr The International Day of the Book
According to UNESCO (the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization), World Book and Copyright Day is a celebration to promote the enjoyment of books and reading. “Each year, on 23 April, celebrations take place all over the world to recognize the magical power of books – a link between the past and the future, a bridge between generations and across cultures”. The date is symbolic in world literature: it is the date on which several prominent authors, William Shakespeare, Miguel Cervantes and Inca Garcilaso de la Vega all died. Therefore, 23 April was a straightforward choice at UNESCO’s General Conference, which was held in Paris in 1995, with a view to pay a world-wide and yearly tribute to books and authors on this date, “encouraging everyone to access books – most beautiful invention for sharing ideas beyond the boundaries of humanity space and time as well as the most powerful forces of poverty eradication and peace building.”
Books are lessons of entire lives contained in a few pages. The more books we read, the more we expand our vision and our experience of this world, through the stories, thoughts, sorrows, loves, excitements, fears and so many other emotions, of other human beings. Books make us grow in many ways, as individuals and as collectivities. They connect us to each other, and to our inner-selves. Our humanity as a whole improves!
At WIN World, we love feeling inspired with a view to better inspire others, therefore we naturally absolutely love books.
We have a nice little library packed with books that we love and for World Book Day 2018, we could not make up our minds regarding which books to chose, so we ended up picking randomly three of them. Find them below 🙂
Cheers and have a happy World Book Day!
