Entrepreneurs bet big on growth in 2026

January 6, 2026

Despite ongoing global economic uncertainty, entrepreneurship is not slowing down — quite the opposite. In 2026, small business leaders are showing renewed confidence, ambition, and clarity about what will drive their growth in the years ahead.

Recent research released by LinkedIn highlights a clear shift in mindset: founders and small business leaders are leaning into technology, authenticity, and networks as core engines for scale. In the United States alone, the number of LinkedIn members adding “founder” to their profile grew by 69% year over year, a strong signal that entrepreneurial momentum is accelerating.

According to the study, more than half of small business leaders are optimistic about 2026 — and that optimism is backed by concrete strategic priorities.

Technology and AI: Speed, Scale, and Access

Artificial intelligence is emerging as a decisive growth enabler. 54% of US small business leaders now say AI is essential to their growth, while 76% of marketers agree that it allows smaller brands to compete more effectively with larger players.

Beyond efficiency, AI is also influencing entrepreneurial intent. Nearly half of respondents (47%) say that access to AI tools has made them more likely to start their own business. Estimates suggest that generative AI could unlock up to $1.6 trillion in productive capacity for US small and medium-sized businesses — representing around 40% of the total AI opportunity.

For many leaders, the focus is practical: using technology to improve marketing performance, accelerate lead generation, and gain time back to focus on strategy and execution.

Brand Credibility as a Growth Priority

If technology is the engine, brand credibility is the fuel. Brand building emerged as the top priority for small businesses heading into 2026, with 76% of leaders identifying it as critical to achieving growth ambitions.

Authenticity plays a central role in this shift. Nearly three-quarters of business owners believe that showing up authentically online is just as important as being present in person. As a result, 65% of small business leaders say they are increasingly acting as content creators themselves — using storytelling, thought leadership, and consistent visibility to build trust and relevance.

Networks That Turn Attention into Opportunity

While technology accelerates processes, human connection remains irreplaceable. The research reinforces the enduring value of professional networks: 78% of small business leaders say networks are critical for growth, and 63% rely on trusted community input to make faster, better decisions.

Notably, 73% of respondents believe human connection has become more important — not less — in the age of AI. This perspective is mirrored in hiring priorities, with over 69% of US companies agreeing that people skills are increasingly vital in an AI-driven economy.

Ora Levit, VP of Product Management at LinkedIn, notes that small businesses are succeeding by combining new technologies with strong networks:“Our research shows that small business leaders are thriving despite economic challenges by blending new technology that allows them to accomplish more than ever before, with a strong network that helps unlock opportunities.”
