From the beginning of his career, David Hertz was already thinking about starting a business that was meaningful to him. He graduated as a chef and worked in the hottest Brazilian restaurants until he understood that the purpose was to serve others. In the broadest sense of the word.
The chef flourished as a social entrepreneur. In the early 2000s, a pioneer impact businessman was born, a reference in the area in his country and, later on, in the world. The chosen bias was social gastronomy, a branch that values equity, inclusion, and productive social transformation.
But David says Gastromotiva started with a mistake: to take professional training courses to the slums – “only professional training”. From the experience came the understanding that it was also necessary to take care of each professional. To train not only cooks, but entrepreneurs. And there is a huge responsibility in this mission.
“When you train a kitchen assistant, you train a future cook, who is going to become a chef or an entrepreneur, who can become a social entrepreneur and make this circular economy and do something aimed at their own community. It’s the multiplying power.”
This is only possible, according to him, with a strong organizational culture. A creative manager. A plural and engaged technical team. And that, thus, attracts the best talent.
“Go get your passion. It will become your driver, your talent, and it will serve not only you, but also others. The most important thing is to serve the other. Today, my pleasure in serving is knowing that the person behind the plate is being nurtured, is being empowered, and thinking that she or he may also have the resources to transform the way he or she relates to the world.”
Today, David Hertz is a reference in social entrepreneurship in Brazil, and attracts more and more investors. How? The entrepreneur told more details at BR Talks, the WIN World Newsroom series.
