Technology adoption will remain a key driver of business transformation in the next five years. According to the World Economic Forum’s The Future of Jobs Report 2023, over 85% of organizations surveyed identify increased adoption of new and frontier technologies and broadening digital access as the trends most likely to drive transformation in their organization. 

Exploring how jobs and skills will evolve over the coming years, the report estimates that five professions will expand rapidly over the next years as automation and energy transition transform the way we work. They are:

Growing jobs

1. AI and Machine Learning Specialists (39%)
2. Sustainability Specialists (33%)
3. Business Intelligence Analysts (32%)
4. Information Security Analysts (31%)
5. FinTech Engineers (31%)

At the same time, five other roles, which, according to the International Labor Organization, are currently occupied by 673 million workers globally, are expected to drop in demand. They are:

Declining jobs

1. Bank Tellers and Related Clerks (40%)
2. Postal Service Clerks (40%)
3. Cashiers and Ticket Clerks (37%)
4. Data Entry Clerks (36%)
5. Administrative and Executive Secretaries (34%)

On the other hand, the report shows that broader application of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) standards within the organizations will also have a significant impact. The energy transition could generate about 30 million jobs by 2030 in clean energy, energy efficiency, and low-emission technologies.
